The short answer

McDonald’s India is the most different McDonald’s on Earth: no beef, no pork, anywhere, ever — the menu runs on chicken, egg, paneer and potato, and roughly half of it is vegetarian, marked with the green dot and red-brown triangle India’s food law puts on everything. The stars: the ₹79 (~$0.83) McAloo Tikki potato burger, the McSpicy Paneer, and the double-decker Maharaja Mac standing in for the Big Mac. Newest arrivals: the Signature range (August 2026). Prices below come from the McDelivery menu; counters in the restaurant charge less.

The Big Mac does not exist in India and never has: the chain entered in 1996 having already removed beef and pork from the entire operation, out of respect for Hindu and Muslim customers, and rebuilt the menu around chicken, egg and a vegetarian bench no other market comes close to. Kitchens here run fully separate veg and non-veg cooking lines, and every item carries India’s statutory food marks — a green dot for vegetarian, the triangle for everything else — which we reproduce in the tables below.

One structural note: McDonald’s India operates as two franchises (one for the north and east, one for the west and south), and prices vary slightly between them and between channels. The prices below are north-and-east delivery prices, which include a markup; in-restaurant prices run lower, and app coupons cut further.

One burger, five ways

Most of the board above also exists in variant forms, which is a menu-engineering habit unique to India in the McDonald’s world:

  • Double patty versions of the tikki, McVeggie, McChicken and McSpicy lines (₹95-289, ~$1.00-$3.04).
  • Whole wheat bun swaps on six burgers, a few rupees over the standard build.
  • NONG (“no onion, no garlic”) versions of the McAloo Tikki and Mexican McAloo Tikki at the same ₹79 (~$0.83) — built for Jain customers and anyone observing sattvic dietary rules.
  • Protein Plus (2025): a plant-protein slice added into most burgers for ₹20-46, one slice or two.
  • During Shravan, the fasting month (roughly August), the menu adds dedicated specials — covered on the sides page, including unsalted fries.

No other market lets one burger be ordered five ways for reasons of faith, diet and appetite at once.

Reading the Indian menu

The green dot and the triangle are law, not branding: India’s food-safety rules require every packaged and menu item to declare vegetarian status, and McDonald’s builds its whole operation around the split, separate fryers included. Note that egg counts as non-veg here, which is why the McEgg wears a triangle. The worldwide exclusives table puts this menu in context, and the boards for Japan, Korea and China show how differently the same company localizes elsewhere — nowhere else did it rebuild the kitchen itself.

FAQ

Does McDonald’s India serve beef or pork?

No, and it never has: the chain launched in 1996 with both removed from the entire menu nationwide, in a country where the majority don’t eat beef and a large minority don’t eat pork. Patties are chicken, egg, potato, paneer and vegetable.

What is the Maharaja Mac?

India’s replacement for the Big Mac: a double-decker sold in a grilled-chicken version (₹285, ~$3.00) and a corn-and-cheese vegetarian version (₹235, ~$2.47), both with jalapeños and habanero sauce. The name means “great king.”

What is the McAloo Tikki?

A burger built on the aloo tikki, India’s street-food potato patty: spiced potato and peas, breaded and fried, with onion and tomato for ₹79 (~$0.83). It launched in the late 1990s and is widely reported as the chain’s best-selling item in India.

Is McDonald’s vegetarian in India?

About half the menu is, cooked on a dedicated line, and a few locations near pilgrimage sites (Katra, near the Vaishno Devi shrine, was the first) run fully vegetarian. Every item carries the statutory green dot or non-veg triangle.

Are these prices what I’d pay in the restaurant?

Slightly less, usually: the prices above are from the McDelivery menu, which carries a delivery markup. Counter and kiosk prices run lower, and the app’s coupon deals lower still.
