Jollibee is the Philippines’ biggest chain and its happiest export: a bee-mascotted fast-food giant whose fried Chickenjoy outsells everything else and whose sweet-style spaghetti confuses first-timers into fans. North America is mid-expansion — 109 stores (81 US, 28 Canada) and building toward 500 US locations by 2030, with a Manhattan flagship and new Canadian commitments. First order: Chickenjoy with rice, Jolly Spaghetti on the side, Peach Mango Pie to finish, roughly $12 all in.

Jollibee inspires the kind of devotion other chains buy ads to fake: opening-day lines run hours, homesick Filipinos drive states for it, and food media keeps “discovering” it every year. Here’s what it is, what to order and where it’s headed.
What to order, and what it costs
The core four, with US prices (they vary by location; treat these as close):
- Chickenjoy (about $3-5 per piece, buckets from about $17 for six): the signature fried chicken, brined, thin-crusted and crisp-quiet rather than crunch-loud, served with gravy. The wing and thigh cuts convert skeptics.
- Jolly Spaghetti (about $4.50): sweet banana-ketchup sauce, sliced hot dogs, ground meat, cheese. It’s Filipino home cooking, not a failed marinara; order it as its own food and it lands.
- Burger Steak (about $3.50-5): burger patties in mushroom gravy over rice, the sleeper best-value item.
- Peach Mango Pie (about $2-3): fried hand pie, molten inside, the item most non-Filipino visitors leave planning to return for.
Also on US menus, despite lists claiming otherwise: Palabok Fiesta (noodles in shrimp sauce) and the Yumburger. Philippines-only, for the completists: the Jolly Hotdog, the Champ burger, halo-halo as a regular item, and the silog breakfast plates with garlic rice.
The expansion map
Jollibee runs about 1,800 stores globally, most in the Philippines and Vietnam, and North America is the growth story: 109 stores (81 US + 28 Canada) as of the Manhattan opening, a new US franchising program targeting 500 US stores by 2030 (deepening California, Texas and Florida, plus Nevada, New York and New Jersey), and 26 newly committed Canadian locations announced in August 2026. The UK holds 12 stores including a Leicester Square flagship, with a stated 50-store plan resuming from 2026.
One balancing note, since we date our claims: parent company JFC trimmed group-wide opening targets this year and closed some underperforming group stores in early 2026, so the 2030 numbers are ambitions, not schedule. The direction, though, is unambiguous: if there isn’t a Jollibee near you yet, the odds improve every quarter.
Why the queues
Beyond the food: Jollibee is an institution of the Filipino diaspora, and a US opening functions as a community event (the Manhattan store’s opening line wrapped blocks). For everyone else it’s the rare fast-food experience that’s genuinely different: rice as a default side, gravy as a beverage-adjacent condiment, and a menu built on Filipino comfort food rather than a US template with local paint.
FAQ
What should a first-timer order at Jollibee?
Chickenjoy (thigh or wing) with rice and gravy, a side Jolly Spaghetti, and a Peach Mango Pie. About $12, and it covers the three things the chain is famous for.
Why is Jollibee’s spaghetti sweet?
It’s the Filipino style: banana-ketchup sauce with hot dogs, sweet by design and eaten that way at home across the Philippines. Judge it as Filipino food, not Italian.
Where is Jollibee opening in the US?
The expansion concentrates on California, Texas and Florida, adding Nevada, New York and New Jersey, under a franchising push targeting 500 US stores by 2030 from 81 today. Canada adds 26 committed new locations.
Is Jollibee halal or does it serve rice?
Rice, yes, as a standard side. Halal status varies by country (some Southeast Asian markets are certified; US stores generally aren’t), so check the local market’s site.
